PUNE: The civic body has formed 15 teams headed by additional municipal commissioner Kunal Khemnar to ensure that construction sites follow preventive measures to mitigate air pollution and intensified action against garbage burning.
Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) squads have started inspection of construction sites and sent notices to six, so far, directing them to comply with the norms.
On Wednesday, a PMC meeting was held to review whether measures were in tandem with the state’s directives. Khemnar said the squads would have to visit construction sites and locations vulnerable to dumping of waste in their jurisdictions.
“The solid waste management department has been instructed to intensify action against burning of waste and dumping of garbage. Officials will have to generate daily reports,” Khemnar said.
Construction sites found flouting directives will be made to stop work till all measures are in place, he added.
Head of PMC’s solid waste management department Sandeep Kadam said, “Despite action against burning of waste, citizens are complaining. We have told sanitary inspectors to increase vigil in their areas and initiate spot action.”
