RANCHI: The Jharkhand State Housing Board (JSHB) would initiate legal proceedings against the allottees who have taken the plots leased out by the board for residential purpose but illegally converted those into commercial establishments, an official said.
Speaking to TOI on Saturday, JSHB chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan said they have issued notices to over 500 identified defaulters. “Since assuming charge in July, I have ordered the verification of the allottees across the state. Over 500 notices have been sent to violators across Ranchi, Hazaribag, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, among others. The process is under way,” he added.
Sanjay said most of the defaulters haven’t replied to the notices served. “We have served three notices to each of the violators. There is a provision to initiate legal proceedings, including cancellation of the allotments, against the violators in our court if the replies to the notices issued are not made or unsatisfactory,” he said.
The JSHB chairman said the major and most common violations relate to taking land for residential purposes but using those for commercial reasons.
“It has been a common and rampant practice across the state. Even in Ranchi, places like Harmu and Ashok Nagar are full of stark violations where plots allotted for the construction of houses/residential purpose have been turned into high-end malls or other commercial establishments,” he said. Referring to the actions being taken against encroachments, Sanjay said they were surveying to identify the encroached areas and free them.
