PUNE: The Gunthewari scheme of the Pune Municipal Corporation is yet to gather pace, with only 24 of the 900 proposals approved in the last two years.

According to PMC officials, around 1 lakh properties, including those in 34 merged areas, are probable beneficiaries of this scheme, which aims to regularise unauthorised properties. As per the PMC officials, high regularisation charges are proving to be a hindrance to generating a good response for this scheme.

The issue was raised at the state assembly session on Thursday. “The authorities should take steps so that illegal constructions do not come up in the first place. The administrations should take action against those which have been built illegally,” said Uday Samant, cabinet minister of the state, while replying to a query on illegal constructions.

The civic body started accepting proposals from property owners having illegal constructions in January 2021. Construction on Gunthewari land till December 31, 2020 can be regularised under this scheme. The previous cut-off was January 1, 2001. “The PMC is creating awareness about the scheme. The applicants should make sure to submit all valid document,” said a PMC official.
