MUMBAI: Dharavi residents have until April 15 to submit their documents for verification to determine if they qualify for free housing in the notified area or rental housing outside it.

Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd, the special purpose vehicle (SPV) set up to execute the Dharavi redevelopment project, has entrusted the task of survey and verification to Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority (DRP/SRA), also part of the SPV.

On Sunday, DRP/SRA issued advertisements in newspapers urging all those who had stayed away from the survey to come forward and participate. “House, shop, and factory—all of these will be planned and developed as per the state govt’s policy,” reads the advertisement.

Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have opposed the redevelopment project, demanding that all residents be rehabilitated in Dharavi itself. Those opposed to the project being undertaken by the lead developer Adani Realty have resisted submitting their documents. DRP/SRA, which is carrying out the survey, has warned that such households will not be considered for rehabilitation. So far, 95,000 structures have been numbered and 63,000 have submitted documents. These include ground-plus-two structures.

The master plan for the project is expected to be publicised soon. —Clara Lewis
