HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) achieved a new milestone as citizens made a record-breaking 100 crore in property tax payments in the final 24 hours of the financial year 2024-25. This surge was spurred by the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, which offered a substantial 90% rebate on outstanding tax arrears.
This historic accomplishment also enabled GHMC to cross 2,000 crore in property tax collection for the first time in its history. The remarkable increase came within just one month, as collections surged from 1,500 crore at the end of February to an additional 400 crore by March’s end.
“Apart from OTS, nearly 800 staff were deployed across the city during the last two months to strengthen property tax collection efforts. Additionally, ‘Property Tax Parishkaram’ helped resolve citizens’ tax-related concerns, while notices were issued to commercial establishments. These collection initiatives enabled GHMC to achieve unprecedented property tax collection figures in 2024-25,” said Anurag Jayanti, additional commissioner (revenue), GHMC.
5% rebate on tax for FY 2025-26 if paid by April 30
GHMC has introduced a 5% rebate for taxpayers who pay their entire property tax for the 2025-26 financial year before April 30. Starting April 1, citizens can avail of this early bird scheme, which applies only to the current year’s property tax and excludes arrears.
