LUDHIANA: Ludhiana Municipal Corporation achieved its set target of property tax, crossing the Rs 150 crore mark against the target of Rs 140 crore, while officials enhanced the target to Rs 150 crore. With the last day of paying property tax for the 2024-25 fiscal year gone, heavy penalty and interest will be levied on defaulters from April 1. However, online recovery of tax continued till midnight, and officials claimed that exact data will be compiled on Tuesday.
By Monday, officials succeeded in recovering around Rs 152 crore from all four zones in property tax. The figure will increase when manual recovery by field staff is taken into account. For this financial year, despite MC elections and political pressure, civic officials recovered tax from the taxpayers.
From water supply and sewerage dues, 91% of the target was achieved and more than Rs 40 crore was recovered from water supply bills. Officials claimed that since it was a holiday on Monday due to Eid, they will be able to share complete details about the MC recovery by Tuesday. MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, “Recovery of property tax remained good so far, and teams of all four zones have worked really hard to match the targets.”
By March 30, the MC could get Rs 454 crore in the form of GST share against the Rs 625 crore target set for the current fiscal year. Like the previous year, the civic body failed to get complete payment from the state govt. Despite the fact that senior deputy mayor Rakesh Prashar also requested CM Bhagwant Mann to clear pending dues so that they could get development works done, the target has not been met. From advertisement tax, against a target of Rs 12.50 crore, the MC could get Rs 11.77 crore by March 30. From additional excise duty, the annual target was Rs 40 crore, and the MC recovered Rs 34.54 crore till March 30.
