LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has recorded a 36% rise in property tax collection for financial year 2024-25, amassing Rs 579 crore, up from Rs 425.8 crore in 2023-24. The increase of Rs 153 crore is attributed to the rise in number of properties and enhanced enforcement measures.

According to LMC officials, property taxpayers increased from 4.16 lakh in last financial year to 5.05 lakh in 2024-25, comprising 4.33 lakh residential and 72,108 commercial properties. This indicates an addition of 89,000 properties to the tax net over the past year.

Civic body’s property sealing drive led to recovery of long-pending dues, with over 6,000 properties being sealed.

They said the adoption of digital payment solutions also played a crucial role, making tax payments more accessible. LMC reported 1.4 lakh transactions via online banking, generating Rs 62.19 crore while Paytm QR code payments contributed Rs 22.86 crore. Beyond property tax, LMC’s overall tax and non-tax revenue collection increased from Rs 909 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 1,355.3 crore in 2024-25. Municipal commissioner Inderjit Singh said LMC has implemented various initiatives like holding resolution days every Friday to address GIS-related issues and ensure smoother transactions for taxpayers.

“The city made significant progress, thanks to the team’s efforts, including the encouragement of principal secretary urban development Amrit Abhijat. Sustaining this momentum will enhance financial autonomy. Higher revenue means more central and city finance grants. An improved CM Grid Scheme rating will qualify us for global plan grants, including stormwater drainage funding,” Singh said. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal said: “Increased revenue will improve public infrastructure and essential services.”
