PATNA: Residents of the new capital circle in ward number 11 at Anisabad are facing hardships as they struggle to obtain property tax receipts, despite making timely payments. While payments for property taxes have been successfully processed online and show up on the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) website, residents are being issued receipts for the previous financial year (2024-25), rather than for the current fiscal (2025-26).

The issue is causing inconvenience, especially for senior citizens, who rely on these receipts for various official purposes, such as applying for govt schemes, pension benefits, and other essential services.

“I paid my property tax of Rs 1,268 online well before the due date, and I can see the payment on the PMC site also, but when I clicked for the receipt, one of last financial year (2024-25) was generated. This is causing me a lot of trouble to me because I need the current year’s receipt for my records,” said Daisy, a resident of Kalyani colony area in the new capital circle.

Similarly, Rekha Kumari of Mitra Mandal Colony at Anisabad said an old property payment receipt was generated when she deposited the tax online on Friday. “We are invariably every day getting messages on our cellphones from the PMC asking us to pay property tax well in time failing which strict action would be taken by the PMC,” the aggrieved residents said, adding the PMC must resolve the issue as many of them were unable to visit the PMC office in person.

When contacted, PMC executive officer Prabhat Ranjan said the matter would be looked into on a priority by the revenue officer on Monday. The system glitch, if any, would be rectified soon so that residents could receive the correct receipts, he said.

A retired banker, Shankar Saran, said the situation continues to cause hardship for many, particularly the elderly.
