INDORE: Madhya Pradesh witnessed a significant surge in women purchasing properties, demonstrating economic empowerment, extending beyond social spheres. In the fiscal year 2024-25, women across the state demonstrated their growing financial prowess by purchasing properties worth a staggering Rs 38,000 crore, firmly establishing their presence as property owners. Indore emerged as a frontrunner in this transformative trend.
Indore recorded property acquisitions worth Rs 6,300 crore by women in the last financial year. During this period, an impressive 35,988 sale deeds were registered in women’s names, contributing Rs 438 crore in revenue to the state exchequer. Furthermore, women in Indore benefited from Rs 126 crore in discounts under govt concessions designed to promote women’s empowerment.
In Indore, a total of around 85,000 property sale deeds were executed, and of this, around 42% were purchased by women. Similarly, around 8.28 lakh sale deeds were executed across the state in the last financial year, and of this, women became owners of around 3.72 lakh assets. These approximately 45% of properties purchased by women were valued at around Rs 38,000 crore.
This increasing participation in property ownership reflects women’s heightened economic awareness, growing self-reliance, and their evolving and strengthened role within society.
Apart from the increasing literacy level of women and their numbers in different professions as reasons behind their increasing income and buying capacity, the state govt offering them a 2% rebate in the property registration fee is also attributed to their percentage in purchasing properties.
The property registration fee for male applicants is 12.5% of the value of the asset situated in urban areas and 9.5% in rural areas. However, if a woman purchases the property, the govt charges her 2% less, i.e., 10.5% of the value of the asset situated in urban areas and 7.5% of the property’s value in rural areas. Besides, banks are offering many schemes that provide easy loans and some other perks for women applicants.
“Owning property not only bolsters their confidence but also enhances their ability to contribute to decision-making processes within their families and the wider community. The positive impact of govt incentives, such as registration fee discounts and women-centric schemes, is clearly evident in this upward trend,” IG Registration Amit Tomar said, adding that it signifies a growing consciousness among women regarding investments.
