CALANGUTE: The recent high court order on illegal structures spurred intense discussions at the Arpora-Nagoa gram sabha on Sunday.

Following appeals from villagers, sarpanch Roshan Redkar said that the panchayat will write to the chief minister and other authorities, requesting them to regularise all affected structures under the provisions of the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Act. The letter will have to be signed by all the affected persons, he said.

“Most of the houses in our village were built many years ago on ancestral land without proper permissions due to the lack of access to the authorities or awareness,” the letter draft, read out by Redkar, says.
The draft says most residents would find it difficult to get new houses or rebuild their demolished houses after getting formal approval under the current rules and regulations. The draft seeks more time to apply for regularisation under the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Act.
