KOLKATA: New Town residents will soon be able to pay property tax, mutation fees, and avail of other services through the New Town Kolkata Development Authority’s (NKDA) own website. At present, property tax and fees for municipal services are paid through the e-district portal, which often becomes tedious due to technical glitches.

“We are setting up our own platform, which will be embedded with the NKDA website. The authorities received feedback from citizens about hurdles in paying property tax and fees for other municipal services through the e-district portal,” said an NKDA official.

Currently, the e-district portal is linked with the NKDA website. Govt officials said the e-district portal was framed for all urban local bodies but does not properly match the NKDA’s municipal services system. “This is leading to some technical problems, such as the server being down or other glitches,” the official said.

In Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation is working on introducing the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) as an additional payment mode option, apart from the existing online and offline modes.
