KOCHI: Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) authorities informed that they will complete construction of the new shopping complex project in Kakkanad soon. Design of the project, which is being implemented after demolishing a 50-year-old building named Kakkanad Commercial Hub, was presented at a review meeting held here on Wednesday.
Details about the building’s design, including parking facilities, were presented at the review meeting attended by district collector NSK Umesh, GCDA chairman K Chandran Pillai, district panchayat president Manoj Moothedan and others. Those who attended shared their views on the project, and GCDA Chairman assured that suggestions such as completing the construction as quickly as possible and expanding parking facilities would be considered favourably.
The shopping complex project was much awaited and it was delaying for the past many years due to various reasons.
The building will span 18,000 sq ft over five floors, including a basement. Basement will be entirely dedicated to parking, with separate entry and exit routes. The building will feature shops, office spaces, a meeting hall, restrooms as needed and elevator facilities. Temporary accommodations will be arranged for shopowners requiring rehabilitation until the building is completed.
“GCDA is taking steps to ensure the construction is finished as swiftly as possible,” said the chairman.
