JAIPUR: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Thursday formed a committee led by the additional commissioner of the zone to analyse the status of Sirsi Road residents. Officials said the committee would also determine the status of a few residents whose houses were already demolished.

“The committee has been formed to determine the status of only those residents who managed to show us the pattas issued by the erstwhile Jhotwara Panchayat. The committee would determine whether these residents are entitled to compensation and, if yes, the quantity of compensation,” said an official.

According to JDA officials, documents of approximately 70 plot owners are under scrutiny. On April 9, the day of demolition drive, most of these residents showed them pattas issued by the panchayat sometime in the 1960s. JDA already organised a three-day camp for the residents to submit all necessary documents related to their lands.

Residents said there are four types of properties under the scanner. First, a farm owned by the state govt. Second, shopkeepers who have pattas from society. Third, residents who possess pattas from the panchayat. There are a few residents having pattas from the panchayats, but their properties were demolished on April 9 – the day of the anti-encroachment drive.

“JDA already argued that the shops with pattas from the societies are illegal because societies cannot sell shops, but we have countered this claim. We are also waiting for JDA’s reply on the exact width of the road,” said Suresh Mitharwal, the advocate who filed a petition at the JDA tribunal on behalf of the residents.
