PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned to build apartments and shops on its vacant land and the corporation has marked and fenced 88 places in the city for the purpose. While the initiative will provide houses to the denizens and business opportunity with new shops it would also enhance the revenue for the PMC.

The proposal will be passed in the Municipal Corporation House meeting, and further preparations will be decided. Lands have already been marked by the corporation in areas like Naini, Jhunsi, Phaphamau, Bamrauli, and Jhalwa.

In many areas people have illegally occupied municipal corporation land by building houses and shops while there are many vacant lands of the corporation as well. The PMC is planning to build two to three-storey apartments on these vacant places housing shops and business establishments on the ground and first floor, while flats will be constructed above the first floor.

The temporary constructions done by illegally occupying the corporation’s land in Kareli, Daraganj, Ashok Nagar, Teliarganj, Rasulabad, Shivkuti, Salori, Atala, and Sulem Sarai areas is also on the radar of the corporation. Illegal occupants will be removed from here after which the construction of the apartments will be done here soon.

“The Municipal Corporation has land at many places in the city. It is being considered to build houses and shops on the land. In many places, the land has been marked and fenced. The list of lands will be placed in the House, and construction will be done as per the decision taken by the House,” said a senior official of the PMC.

According to sources a large number of people have built houses by occupying government land in the city. Out of this, people built houses by occupying more than 364 bighas of corporation land in Kareli, Atala, Karelabagh, Chakia, and other areas in Zone One Khuldabad area. Preparations are being made to take legal action soon against these encroachments on the corporation’s land. Similar cases of locals occupying govt land are being closely scrutinised by PMC.
