HUBBALLI: A team of state legislators and officials is on a visit to Gujarat to study the planning and implementation of town planning schemes in the state.
The team comprises Hubballi-Dharwad East MLA Prasad Abbayya, Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA Arvind Bellad, Hubballi-Dharwad Central MLA Mahesh Tenginakai, HDUDA president Shakir Sanadi, and other officials. They are currently touring Gujarat for this study.
The state govt sent the team on Tuesday for a two-day tour to gather information about the town planning schemes currently operational in Gujarat.
Shakir Sanadi, president of the Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority, who is part of the team, told TOI from Gujarat that the main purpose of their visit is to study the town planning schemes of Gujarat and how these schemes are aiding the state’s growth. Gujarat is one of the states where infrastructures are designed and developed by implementing town planning schemes effectively and systematically.
As per the govt’s direction, they are studying Gujarat’s planning and implementation of town planning schemes. Their study intends to develop town planning schemes in major cities of Karnataka.
Apart from this, they are also planning to implement a town planning scheme on a small piece of land, ranging from 200 to 500 acres, as a pilot project to showcase the city’s growth and development in Hubballi-Dharwad. They plan to develop roads, schools, hospitals, and residential and commercial areas as per the town planning scheme. For this, they need cooperation from farmers and locals. They will then submit the project to the state govt for approval. This study will help them create their town planning schemes for the city’s growth, he said.
All the legislators and officers will also submit a detailed report to the govt after studying the implementation of town planning schemes in Gujarat.
On Tuesday, they visited Gift City, attended a presentation session, met the Principal secretary of urban development, and interacted with the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority to discuss town planning schemes with the department. During their field visit, they visited Vaishno Devi Circle and Sarkhej Gandhinagar to study the successful implementation of town planning.
On Wednesday, they will have a meeting with DJ Jadeja, chief town planner of Gujarat, visit Adani Shantigram Township, and other places, and hold talks with Deepa Dave, manager of urban planning and city planning development.
They will conclude their study tour on Wednesday evening and return to the state. After visiting Gujarat, they will also have their plans for the city’s growth and township development in partnership with farmers and locals, he added.
