LUCKNOW: The residents of Gomtinagar Extension can now look forward to better civic amenities as the Lucknow Development Authority has handed over the civic maintenance of Sectors 1, 4, 5, and 6 of the area to Lucknow Municipal Corporation. The decision followed a joint inspection of the scheme by teams from LDA and LMC.

Additionally, LDA has transferred Rs 40 crore to the civic body for drinking water and sewerage works in Gomtinagar Extension. The fund will be used for extending 3,000 metres of water pipeline and 2,500 metres of sewer line, along with other infrastructure upgrades.

According to LDA, the authority was previously managing water and sewerage services in these sectors. Following the LDA vice-chairperson’s directive, the process to transfer these responsibilities was initiated. During the site inspection, deficiencies were identified and plans were drawn up for repairs, renovations, and new construction.

LDA VC Prathamesh Kumar said, “To ensure better civic services in the area, it was necessary to transfer the responsibility of water and sewer systems to the municipal corporation. With the entire amount now released, the Jal Kal Department can begin work without delay.”

The money allocated will also cover the cost of laying of pipelines, installation of four new tubewells, construction of five zonal pumping stations, repair of 26 existing tubewells, reconstruction of a damaged overhead tank and repair of remaining tanks.

Further, about 12km of sewer lines will be cleaned using super suction machines and around 350 manholes will be repaired in the area.
