LUDHIANA: Over 1.92 lakh property tax returns are yet to be filed by the residents from the year 2013-14. The defaulters still have time until August 15 to settle the pending dues under the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme. Mayor Inderjit Kaur has appealed to the residents to avail themselves of the maximum benefit of the OTS scheme for property tax, wherein the residents can submit the pending property tax without any penalty or interest by August 15.
MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said as per the policy notified by the government in the past, the residents could submit pending property tax without any penalty or interest by July 31. However, to facilitate the residents at large, the state government had extended the policy and the residents can now submit pending property tax without any penalty or interest by August 15.
The civic body officials said the property tax had to be paid on a self-assessment basis every year. If the property owner fails to pay the property tax, a 20% penalty and 18% annual interest on the pending amount is charged by the MC.
Under this OTS policy, the residents can now submit the pending tax by August 15, 2025, without any penalty or interest. The pending amount can be submitted at the suvidha kendras situated in the zonal offices of the civic body.
Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal have again appealed to the residents to avail themselves maximum benefit of the policy and submit the pending property tax without any penalty or interest.
