GURUGRAM: Scores of residents of Signature Global City-1 in Sector 37D staged a protest on Friday against the developer, alleging their failure to provide proper road connectivity.
Residents said that the builder had committed to providing a 24 m-wide road to the main access point. However, more than a year has passed since possession, yet the promised road remains missing, forcing them to deal with daily challenges while commuting. Of the total 1,250 flats, there are around 150 families living in the society. The possession started last year.
The representative of the developer didn’t respond to TOI’s queries, when contacted. Protesters said the lack of proper connectivity is more than just an inconvenience — it poses a risk to all age groups, from children to the elderly. “When selling us the flats, the builder made big promises. We were shown four 24-metre-wide roads and assured of direct connectivity to the Dwarka Expressway. The reality is that this connectivity doesn’t exist today. Because of this, elderly people and children are not able to step out of their homes,” said resident Praveen Chawla.
Highlighting the poor condition of the society, Dr Amanjot Kaur said, “On one side, there is an open, dirty drain, and on the other, large potholes. Walking or driving on this road is neither safe nor convenient. The stretch has no streetlights, making it even more unsafe after dark.”
“Every day, we have to navigate a narrow, unpaved stretch. This was never what we were promised when we bought these homes. The stretch that we use belongs to some local villagers, who often refuse to let us pass through and even dug up some portions, creating ditches and making it difficult to commute,” said Parvinder Sharma, another resident.
Residents have warned that if the developer does not take immediate action to construct the 24-metre road and complete other pending facilities, they will intensify their agitation and even threaten to take the matter to court.
Protesters raised concerns over the impact on emergency services. They pointed out that ambulances and fire tenders face difficulty accessing society quickly, which could be disastrous in urgent situations.
