SURAT: The Navsari Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a drive against unauthorized construction, issuing notices to 40 commercial and residential sites that failed to show valid permissions.
Over the past week, the NMC town planning department inspected around 200 under-construction sites. Of these, 40 were found without necessary approvals and were asked to produce construction documents within five days. Officials warned that structures without permissions could face demolition.
This is the first time such a large-scale action has been taken since Navsari was declared a municipal corporation. The city has been divided into 13 wards, where elections are expected in the near future.
Ward-10 recorded the highest number of suspected illegal constructions with seven sites, followed by six each in Ward-1 and Ward-2. Notices were also served to one building in Eru and two each in Dharagiri and Tighra villages.
Municipal commissioner Dev Chaudhary told TOI, “The buildings served notices failed to produce documents like sanctioned building plans, development permissions, or construction approvals from the competent authority. We have asked the owners to submit the documents within five days to avoid legal proceedings. Our teams screened 200 under-construction sites in the past week, and this activity will continue.”
In addition to construction approvals, owners and developers have been asked to furnish layout plans, city survey numbers, 7/12 extracts, and other documents to prove the legality of their projects.
