LUCKNOW: The state capital is set for a major expansion with the launch of the state capital region (SCR) project, modelled on Delhi-NCR.
A detailed 380-page report was prepared and submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), which will now send it to the state govt for approval.
The SCR plan covers six districts — Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Hardoi and Sitapur — with the aim of integrated development that strengthens the capital while ensuring balanced growth in surrounding areas, making it comparable to different capital cities around the country.
LDA officials said the scheme was inspired by Delhi-NCR and the Mumbai metropolitan region, focusing on a mix of residential, industrial, commercial and green zones. A 40-page synopsis of the report is being readied for release by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, while a logo for the SCR is also being designed through a public competition. Public participation will be central to the project as LDA plans to seek suggestions from citizens via an online portal and suggestion boxes.
Officials said the goal is to shape Lucknow into a global smart and green city with modern infrastructure, new employment opportunities, and improved quality of life.
The scheme identified key priorities, including the expansion of the Metro network to adjoining districts, widening of highways and ring roads, affordable housing projects, redevelopment of slum areas, digital infrastructure, promotion of solar energy, setting up of industrial zones and SEZs, creation of skill development and startup hubs, smart transport facilities such as BRTS and electric buses, and better water management, including conservation of the Gomti river.
