LUDHIANA: The local municipal corporation is making a last-ditch effort to collect pending property tax payments, urging residents to take advantage of a one-time settlement (OTS) policy that waives all penalties and interest. The deadline for the scheme is Sunday, Aug 31.

In a move to accommodate last-minute payments, the city’s suvidha kendras, or citizen service centers, will remain open on both Saturday and Sunday. Mayor Inderjit Kaur said the decision was made to facilitate residents and encouraged everyone to use the opportunity to clear their dues. “This is a golden chance for residents to submit their pending property tax without interest and penalty,” she said.

The property tax, which was first implemented in the year 2013-14, is subject typically to a 20% penalty and 18% annual interest for late payments. Under the current OTS policy, all of those fees are being waived. Payments can be made at the suvidha kendras located in the zonal offices of the civic body.
