Frustration Grows as Rajasthan Housing Board Delays Road Completion, ETRealty

JAIPUR: Residents of Indira Gandhi Nagar have been waiting since a year for the completion of a mere 100 metre stretch of road near Kundanpura on Ganga Marg. The unfinished road, riddled with potholes, has turned into a daily hazard, with two-wheeler accidents becoming routine during the monsoon.

The Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) constructed nearly 5km of road in the area, but work on the last 100 metres was left incomplete due to encroachment. Encroachers moved the high court demanding compensation, which stalled the project. However, six months ago, the high court dismissed their claims and directed the housing board to complete the road. Despite this, construction has not resumed.

Expressing frustration, Ward 120 councillor Chotu Ram Meena said, “We met the RHB Commissioner several times but never received a proper answer. The court gave clear orders six months ago, yet the road remains incomplete, and accidents continue.”

Pointing fingers at alleged collusion, Meena said, “The work is being deliberately delayed due to the nexus between officials and contractors. When I met Commissioner Rashmi SharmaThursday, she told me the roadwork would only begin after the Assembly session ends, as she did not want this issue to surface during proceedings.”

Residents also allege that negligence is not confined to this single road. Last year, a sewer line was laid near the Sector 14 drain, but the contractor failed to clear debris, leaving the road obstructed for a year. Similarly, a road behind shops in Sector 1 was dug up for sewerage work but has not been repaired since.

When approached for comment, RHB Commissioner Rashmi Sharma was unavailable to respond.
