LUDHIANA: In a surprise sweep, Ludhiana’s municipal chief ordered demolitions, sealing drives, and even police cases against developers behind five illegal colonies in Shimlapuri, Jaspal Bangar and Kanganwal.
Municipal commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal has even warned his own inspectors of disciplinary heat after launching this surprise crackdown on illegal colonies. Rogue developers discover the real foundation of Ludhiana’s property market isn’t cement but compliance — and the commissioner’s surprise visits cure the cracks.
During an inspection in the city’s Zone C, Dachalwal directed officials to file a police report against a developer of an illegal colony near Dhand Palace in Shimlapuri and to attach the developer’s property. He warned of disciplinary action against any assistant town planners (ATPs) and building inspectors who failed to prevent the illegal construction. Officials are under strict instructions to seal unoccupied buildings and demolish those still under construction.
Similar orders were issued for Ganpati Colony and Krishna Colony, where officials were told to halt property registrations by writing to the revenue department and to demolish or seal illegal structures. In the Kanganwal area, two more illegal colonies were targeted, with officials ordered to seal the main gate of one.
“Strict departmental action would also be taken against the concerned ATPs and building inspectors who were deputed in these areas and failed to act against illegal colonies,” Dachalwal shared with the media. He added that he would continue to conduct surprise inspections to ensure compliance.
