PRAYAGRAJ: Over 63,000 people have applied for homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), said District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) project director Pratibha Srivastava.

The agency is planning to offer homes to 1.2 lakh residents of the Sangam City and the screening process for the same is underway. Last year, 26,437 eligible people were offered housing under the scheme.

Srivastava expects the number of applicants to increase further. Of the 20,000 applications screened so far, 70 per cent have been found eligible while the remaining applications are being screened. The DUDA will provide housing to the number of eligible applicants found.

Apart from DUDA, the Prayagraj Development Authority, Housing Development, and gram panchayats are also advancing this scheme. The PDA is developing the Nav Prayagam Township on 26 hectares in Naini, which will provide housing for over 45,000 people. Similarly, the Housing Development Board is also working on a new plotting scheme in the Naini area, which could provide residential plots to approximately 1,500 families.

Around 12,000 to 15,000 houses will be available under the PM and CM Housing Schemes to beneficiaries in the city. Housing under the Prime Minister and chief minister Housing Schemes is provided through gram panchayats.

The state govt plans to provide housing to the maximum number of beneficiaries in the city, having a population of over 75 lakhs.
