DIMAPUR: Nearly 30,000 houses have been provided across Nagaland under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), with a completion rate of approximately 96% — one of the highest in the northeast — according to Temjenrenla Kechu, state mission director, PMAY-U.
Delivering the keynote address at the second PM Awas Mela-Shehri under the Angikaar 2025 campaign at the Chumoukedima Town Council hall, Kechu highlighted the scheme’s achievements and outlined new strategies under PMAY-U 2.0.
She said PMAY-U has made significant strides in Nagaland since its launch in 2016, marking nine years of implementation. Beneficiaries under the first phase received a subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh, disbursed in three instalments.
Kechu explained that the Angikaar campaign is a nationwide outreach initiative under PMAY-U 2.0, aimed at accelerating implementation through public awareness drives, door-to-door campaigns, camps, and loan melas.
Municipal affairs and urban development adviser Zhaleo Rio, also speaking at the event, said PMAY-U 2.0 continues the mission of the original scheme, with enhanced financial assistance for urban poor and middle-class families to build or purchase affordable homes.
He added that the scheme will be implemented over five years, with the subsidy increased to Rs 2.5 lakh, also disbursed in three instalments. Of this, 90% will be funded by the central govt and 10% by the state govt.
