HUBBALLI: A total of 42,345 houses out of 1.8 lakh to be distributed under the ‘Housing for all’ scheme by Karnataka Slum Development Board will be allotted in the first week of May during a programme in Hubballi, housing and minorities welfare department minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan said. Chief minister Siddaramiah and All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate the programme.
In the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad, the board is constructing 1,300 houses and of these, 1,008 will be handed over to the beneficiaries in the first week of May, Khan said after inspecting the final work of houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at Mantur Road in Hubballi on Sunday.
Under the scheme, the cost to construct one house is Rs 7.50 lakh. The central govt will provide Rs 1.50 lakh as a subsidy under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the state govt will provide Rs 1.20 lakh as a subsidy to general beneficiaries and Rs 2 lakh as a subsidy to SC, ST beneficiaries.
MLA and chairman of the board Prasad Abbayya said Bhoomi Puja for the construction of the houses was conducted in 2017. In the first phase, 36,000 houses will be handed over, in the second phase 42,000 houses, and in the third phase more than 35,000 houses will be handed over.
