MADIKERI: District labour officer T Kaveri said 12,629 workers, comprising 9,971 males and 2,658 females, are registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Act in Kodagu district.
The registration distribution across taluks shows 3,069 workers (2,424 males, 645 females) in Madikeri, 4,146 workers (3,759 males, 387 females) in Somwarpet and 5,414 workers (3,788 males, 1,626 females) in Virajpet.
Workers can register with the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers‘ Welfare Board via helpline 155214. The board offers pension benefits to members aged 60 with three years of membership. Family pension provisions extend to spouses of deceased pensioners, Kaveri said.
The disability pension programme provides monthly support and assistance based on disability percentage for workers affected by occupational diseases or accidents. Additional provisions include professional toolkits and maternity assistance for female beneficiaries’ first two deliveries. The scheme also covers funeral expenses and Anugraha Rashi scheme support for deceased beneficiaries.
Educational assistance encompasses scholarships from nursery to postgraduate studies for registered workers’ first two children. The scheme includes medical assistance and accident compensation for cases involving death or permanent disability.
The medical subsidy covers treatments including cardiac procedures, kidney transplants, cancer operations, ophthalmological procedures, stroke treatment, orthopaedic surgeries, hysterectomy, asthma management, abortion cases, gallbladder treatments, kidney stone removal, brain haemorrhage treatment, ulcer care, dialysis, ENT procedures, neurosurgery, vascular operations, digestive system surgeries, breast treatments, hernia operations, appendix removal and bone-related ones.
Additional benefits include marriage assistance for workers or their two children, and mother-child support providing annual assistance for pre-school education and nutrition until the child reaches three years, she said.
