INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) sealed 36 shops on the first floor of Siddhi Vinayak Market 2 on Jail Road on Wednesday for non-payment of property tax and garbage collection fees.
A team from IMC’s Zone 3 arrived at the market, affixed the relevant documents on the doors of the shops and sealed the locks.
According to Zone 3 ARO Anil Nikam, none of these 36 shopkeepers had paid their property tax and garbage collection fees to IMC. “The seals will be removed from the shops after the shopkeepers provide copies of their registration documents to the corporation, open a property tax account, and deposit the full amount,” he said.
The property tax amount will be determined on the size of the shop. Nikam said that whenever a shopkeeper would provide his registration documents, IMC would complete the necessary paperwork the same day.
“It’s necessary for people to timely pay property and other taxes/fees to IMC to help in continuing the services,” Commissioner Shivam Verma said, adding that such actions were taken after giving enough time and chances to the property owners to clear the dues.
