LUDHIANA: Continuing with the drive against illegal colonies, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) carried out a demolition drive on Wednesday as well. It demolished four illegal colonies and one unauthorized building in the villages of Mullanpur, Manakwal, and Dhandran by dismantling their roads and undergoing illegal constructions and structures in these areas. When developers did not stop the illegal construction work despite being served with notices, a special team carried out the demolition drive, which went unopposed.

Glada chief administrator Sandeep Kumar said such enforcement drives were part of a broader strategy to curb the proliferation of unauthorized colonies at their inception. He added that Glada had planned additional demolition drives in the coming weeks to ensure compliance with govt regulations and to protect the public from fraudulent developers exploiting innocent buyers with promises of affordable plots in unapproved colonies.

He also urged the public to verify the legitimacy of properties before purchasing, cautioning that unauthorized colonies would not be provided with essential services such as water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections. A comprehensive list of approved and regularized colonies, along with their sanctioned maps, is available on Glada’s official website (www.glada.gov.in) for prospective buyers to consult.

The area development authority has also recommended filing of FIRs against the developers of unauthorized colonies in the district. Earlier on Tuesday, demolition was also carried out in four illegal colonies by Glada.
