LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) demolished around 18 illegal constructions in Gomtinagar Extension on Thursday, freeing 10,500 sqm of acquired land worth nearly Rs 150 crore. The operation was carried out under the instructions of LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar.

According to additional secretary Gyanendra Verma, the land in Maleshemau village was acquired in 2000 under the Amar Shaheed Path–Gomtinagar Extension scheme. However, several people illegally occupied the land and built structures on Khasra numbers 406, 407, 408, and 409 in Sector 6.

These encroachments were flagged in a recent survey ordered by the LDA VC, who directed that the site be cleared and later developed into residential and commercial plots.

A joint team from the acquisition and enforcement sections carried out the demolition with the police support. Though illegal occupants protested and tried to obstruct the action, the authority completed the operation and cleared the land.

Verma said the freed land will be developed into plots, and the planning section is finalising a proposal.
