HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has reclaimed govt land spread over 36 acres and worth nearly Rs 3,600 crore in Kondapur in Serilingampally mandal, Rangareddy district, marking its second-most valuable recovery to date.

The land parcel in survey number 59 located near RTA office in Kondapur was under illegal occupation for several years. Acting on a high court directive, HYDRAA officials, backed by police, cleared dozens of temporary commercial sheds raised on the land. The site was immediately fenced and signboards declaring it as govt property were installed to prevent fresh encroachments.

Officials said the reclaimed plot is the second highest in value after HYDRAA’s Sept operation in Gajularamaram in Quthbullapur mandal, Medchal district, where a sprawling 317 acres worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore was recovered from encroachers. That land was carved into illegal layouts and sold in parts to unsuspecting buyers.

The Kondapur recovery is particularly significant given its location in the fast-growing western corridor of Hyderabad, where land prices have surged over the past decade due to IT expansion and real estate demand. Authorities said that encroachers had exploited the high value of the land by erecting temporary sheds and leasing them for commercial use.

HYDRAA officials said that protecting govt land parcels in such high-demand urban zones was a priority. Recent drives have also led to the reclamation of land in Satamrai near Shamshabad airport, valued at about Rs 500 crore, and smaller tracts in Jubilee Hills.
