JAIPUR: Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H) is preparing to use drones to keep watch over any unauthorised construction or violation of building bylaws in the Walled City. The plan includes regular drone flights to track problems such as stray cattle, sewer blockages, and unauthorised construction. Each drone will be capable of capturing photographs and video footage in a radius of five to seven kilometres.

Commissioner of JMC-H, Nidhi Patel, said, “We are starting with demonstrations by different drone companies. We have called the companies for the demonstration on Wednesday,” she said.

Patel added that a decision will be taken only after the demonstrations. “After trials and budget finalisation, we will assess whether this idea is actually feasible or not,” she said.

The move comes at a time when unauthorised construction is reportedly increasing across the heritage zone. Residents allege illegal structures are being raised without restraint and that the vigilance wing and zonal offices of the corporation often remain silent. Locals claim that the system of issuing notices begins only after construction activities are already well underway.
